Kent Hughes' home run: major acquisition coming from the Jets
Kent Hughes has made some bold moves in recent weeks, and it should pay off handsomely for the Montreal Canadiens.
Indeed, Sean Monahan was traded to the Jets in exchange for their first-round pick in 2024. Many expected Winnipeg to go far in the playoffs, but it seems that won't be the case, as they trail 1-3 against the Avalanche.
With how the draft pick rankings are calculated, if the Jets lose, their pick will be between 22nd and 24th. That's a nice gift, as many expected it to be between 29th and 32nd.
This trade could thus become a home run for Kent Hughes and the Canadiens. Not only would the selection bring in a better player, but trading it would also have more value.
"Two years in a row, we found this opportunity where we were open to trading draft picks or assets, like Romanov for Dach. If there's still that kind of player available to us that we think could help us next year and in the future, we'll consider that option." - Kent Hughes
Indeed, Kent Hughes won't hesitate to trade this pick if he can make a significant transaction with it. Otherwise, he could acquire a good player.
