The trade market is unusually quiet, just a few days away from the March 8 deadline. It seems like everyone is waiting for one team to make a move before confirming trades.

And that's probably what will happen. Many trades are expected because many teams are still in the playoff picture.

As Canadiens fans, we are closely monitoring the goalie market. We have been eagerly awaiting the trade of Jake Allen or Cayden Primeau for months. We know the Devils have inquired about them, but they might ultimately turn to another team.

"Sources: At least one team, believed to be #njdevils, has shown real interest in Juuse Saros last few weeks. But #preds say they're intent on keeping Saros so long as they're in the playoffs.

What does the mean for the goalie market?"

While the Preds were willing to sacrifice Yaroslav Askarov this summer, it seems that he is now their goalie of the future. Funny!

For this to work, a third team will need to retain some of Saros's salary, and that's where the Canadiens could come into play. In fact, that may have been what has been negotiated from the beginning, with the Habs being used as a third party.

Kent Hughes could then fetch a 2nd or 3rd-round pick by paying 50% of Saros's $5 million salary for a year.
