He openly says this and involves himself in all situations when a player is available, according to several insiders. From Trevor Zegras to Martin Necas, and including Patrik Laine and Pierre-Luc Dubois, Hughes is doing his homework.
According to Mathias Brunet, the Canadiens' GM will make a big trade, and none of the players in the rumors will be involved.
Indeed, Hughes has quality prospects and many draft picks that he can include in a major trade. As fans, we know the big names on the market, but GMs talk, and there are many more players who could change addresses.
One thing is certain: a big trade is brewing, and we won't necessarily see it coming. It could well be a player who isn't in the rumors, like Kirby Dach and Alex Newhook.
Mathias also talked about hot topics and made several predictions, one of which has already come true with the Devils' acquisition of Jacob Markstrom.
- The Canadiens' 5th overall pick will be known (and it could be Cayden Lindstrom according to the columnist)
- A top-6 winger (arriving via trade and not Necas or Zegras)
- A young defenseman will leave (and it could very well be Jordan Harris)
- Jesse Ylönen will not receive a qualifying offer
- There will be new goaltenders in New Jersey and Ottawa
- There will be a big move by the Utah team (to give a little gift to the fans)
- Mitch Marner will still be a Toronto Maple Leaf
- Steven Stamkos and Sam Reinhart will remain in Florida
We'll see in September if the journalist was right!
