Pierre-Luc Dubois almost ended up in Montreal again
Kent Hughes pushed hard last year to acquire Pierre-Luc Dubois, but the Kings ultimately prevailed.
They paid a high price, and the Jets are benefiting today. A year later, Dubois was almost given to the Washington Capitals.
It appears that two other teams were in the running to acquire him, including the Canadiens. This isn't confirmed, but Elliotte Friedman believes it's the case.
Then the name of the Canadiens came up. Friedman mentioned that he hasn't confirmed this across the league and it's just his belief, but he still feels that the Habs are one of the two interested teams."

It's entirely possible that Kent Hughes made an attempt because Dubois hasn't become an ordinary player overnight.
We know the Canadiens' interest in him, but in my opinion, his contract posed a problem, and Hughes was probably willing to offer a big salary in exchange, like Gallagher or Anderson, or he wanted the Kings to retain some salary.
This didn't happen with the Capitals. The Kings needed a goalie, and they got one with Darcy Kuemper. He's not the best, but he fills a need without retaining salary.
In any case, Kent Hughes did his homework, but it didn't work out this time. Imagine the surprise if he had succeeded!
