Kent Hughes obtained a player equivalent to Kirby Dach for the Habs
In 2022, Kent Hughes acquired Kirby Dach at the NHL draft. Adding the selection of Juraj Slafkovsky, it can be said that it was quite a coup for the Canadiens.
In 2023, the GM repeated with Alex Newhook, just a few hours before the amateur draft. Although the latter was injured, he provided good service to the Canadiens.
The two players do not have the same profile. There is more hope for Dach, and it's hoped he can remain healthy to be a top-six center in the long term.
For Newhook, expectations are lower, but they shouldn't be. Indeed, number 15 has a solid career track record.
Moreover, both players, Dach and Newhook, have exactly 99 points in 212 NHL games. Alex even has 8 more goals.
We can see the trend, and Dach's progression was remarkable before his injury, but nothing prevents seeing a similar progression from Newhook next year.
One thing is certain, he will want to secure a spot in the Canadiens' top six.
