New information has come to light, providing a serious clue about Kent Hughes' plans regarding Cayden Primeau.

The general manager of the Canadiens clearly indicated that the team could try to acquire a goaltender like Marc-André Fleury to back up Samuel Montembeault.

It was Marco Normandin from Habsolument Fan who found a clip from episode 6 of the series "The Rebuilt: Inside the Montreal Canadiens" where Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton discuss the possible trade of Jake Allen.

"At one point, where [Jeff Gorton and Kent Hughes] discuss the best time to trade Allen, Hughes suggests signing a goaltender like Marc-André Fleury during the offseason." - Marco Normandin

Imagine the duo it would have created in Montreal with Samuel Montembeault and Marc-André Fleury, who would be playing his last season at home!

We know what happened next, as the future Hockey Hall of Famer signed with Minnesota, but the interest was definitely there from Montreal.

This also means that Kent Hughes does not intend to continue with Cayden Primeau. The fact that he tried to acquire Yaroslav Askarov this summer speaks volumes as well.

Jakub Dobes is still at the Canadiens camp, and if he displaces Primeau from his spot, expect a trade to happen quite quickly.
