Lane Hutson enters the big leagues: he joins Quinn Hughes and Cale Makar
The Canadiens were totally dominated by the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday night, but there was one player who stood out on the ice, Lane Hutson.
The kid showed up to play, as did Samuel Montembeault. Aside from those two, there were a lot of passengers on the ice and it's a shame.
With Michael Matheson's injury and Arber Xhekaj's bad game (again), Lane Hutson was called upon to play more than 30 minutes in the game. For a rookie, that's huge. In fact, it's huge for any player, even a veteran.
The defenseman played exactly 30:05 during the game, which ended in regulation time. In total, he had possession of the puck for 4:16, which is impressive.
Last year, in the 1,312 games played in the NHL, only four players had more puck possession, and they were veterans.
"Lane Hutson played for 30:05, and he had possession of the puck for 4:16 according to Sport Logiq.
Last year, only four players had more possession time in a game:
1. Quinn Hughes 4:58
2. Erik Karlsson 4:36
3. Matthew Barzal 4:27
4. Cale Makar 4:18" This is an exceptional performance and very inspiring. Lane Hutson is a general for the Canadiens, a source of inspiration. He is certainly the club's future defenseman.
He is increasingly seen as a potential Calder Trophy winner at the end of the season, and if he continues like this, he will win it hands down in my opinion.
