Major Acquisition of an Elite Player by Kent Hughes and the Canadiens: Elias Pettersson Can Definitely Be Removed from the List
Numerous rumors have circulated about players potentially available on the market for the Canadiens to make a splash.
One player often mentioned was elite forward Elias Pettersson, who seemed unable to reach an agreement with the Canucks and was rumored to become a restricted free agent in July, potentially via a sign-and-trade similar to Pierre-Luc Dubois last year.
However, this option can now be definitively ruled out, as the Swede has just signed a lucrative contract extension with Vancouver.
"The Vancouver Canucks have announced they've extended Elias Pettersson on an 8-year deal."
The forward will earn a salary of 11.6 million per year, justified by his performances over the past seasons. He is undoubtedly among the NHL's elite.
The Canadiens will not have the option to pursue him, and Kent Hughes will have to explore other avenues if he hopes to bolster his offense and make a significant move.
