Major announcement for the Canadiens: the 4 draft candidates are known
We are all eagerly anticipating the Canadiens' upcoming 5th overall draft pick, and the four final candidates on their shortlist have now been revealed.
This is a major announcement, coming from the excellent Marc-Olivier Beaudoin, who appears to have solid internal sources.
"After speaking again today with my source well-informed on the matter (the one who mentioned the strong interest from the Canadiens in Beckett Sennecke at the beginning of May, which was later confirmed), the team has started to narrow down their list of candidates for the #5 pick:
1- Ivan Demidov
2- Cayden Lindstrom
3- Zeev Buium/Beckett Sennecke
Tij Iginla is therefore not 'in the race' at the time of writing.
Of course, they will have more meetings and a scout could push hard for another player, but for now, it seems to be heading in this direction."
- Marc-Olivier Beaudoin While everyone believed Cayden Lindstrom was their top choice, it seems he has just been dethroned by Ivan Demidov. The Canadiens met with Demidov recently, and it seems the young forward made a strong impression.
There's good reason for that. Demidov had a better season than Nikita Kucherov at the same age in the same league. He's very solid, and if he were born in North America, he would certainly be considered for the first overall pick.
Another surprising point is the absence of Tij Iginla from the list. It's known that the Canadiens like him a lot, having met with him multiple times.
As for Zeev Buium, he's a very solid defenseman who scored 50 points in 42 games in the NCAA at the age of 17-18. A real machine!
In short, it's a very promising list, and we really hope Demidov is available at the 5th overall pick, otherwise Lindstrom.
