Major change effective immediately for Canadiens rookies
With the Canadiens' prospect pool, including Lane Hutson, David Reinbacher, Logan Mailloux, and the upcoming 5th overall pick, excitement is at an all-time high in Montreal.
We are all eager to see them in action, and for the past few years, we've had the opportunity at the Rookie Tournament, organized by the Sabres and held in Buffalo in mid-September.
That won't be the case this year, but the organization has something better to offer, effective immediately.
According to Renaud Lavoie, there will be a series of two games between the Canadiens' prospects and those of the Maple Leafs, held at the Bell Centre.
"It will take place at the Bell Centre. There will be two games between the Canadiens' rookies and the Maple Leafs' rookies on September 14 and 15.
I think it's a good thing because there were a bit too many games played during the rookie tournament, and now you have two. You watch what you need to watch. Plus, people will be able to come and see additional games, which is always nice." - Renaud Lavoie
Seeing our prospects at the Bell Centre against direct rivals is certainly better than in Buffalo.
Fewer games will also allow the young players to conserve energy for training camp and preseason games.
The names mentioned above should, barring any surprises, stay with the team until the end of camp.
This decision aligns with last year's choice to play two fewer preseason games. The organization wants to conserve energy for the season, and that's commendable.
