MAJOR: Jake Allen wanted nothing to do with going to New Jersey
For months and months, there were rumors of a possible trade involving Jake Allen, and one team that kept coming up was the Devils.
It eventually got done, but not without difficulties. One might think that Kent Hughes or his counterpart in New Jersey had troubles in their negotiations, but that's not the case.
It was Jake Allen himself who didn't want to go play in New Jersey. The team appeared on his shortlist of places he did not wish to end up, but he agreed to waive that clause in his contract.
This is significant and speaks volumes about the goalie's class. He agreed to go to a place he did not want to go to help the Canadiens and also his situation because he would have played less and less hockey in Montreal.
We now better understand why Kent Hughes was treading carefully when questioned about this matter, which was quite delicate.
