While we eagerly await Kent Hughes to make a goaltender trade before the upcoming March 8th trade deadline, journalist Louis Jean has just made a rather contradictory statement.

We know that the Predators offered young goaltender Yaroslav Askarov and their 14th overall pick from the last draft in exchange for the Canadiens' 5th overall pick (David Reinbacher). Kent Hughes rejected this offer, causing quite a stir.

Askarov has been excelling in the American Hockey League, to the point where the Preds, who initially preferred to keep Juuse Saros, had a change of plans.

During the Sortie de Zone podcast, Louis Jean mentioned that he believes the Canadiens could be interested in star goaltender Juuse Saros.

"Journalists have talked about Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton's future plans, notably. Rainville is aware that to win, you need two goaltenders, and he asked Jean if the Habs could be interested in Juuse Saros.

His answer: yes." - Raphaël Simard

This comes out of left field, suggesting that Hughes, who is currently struggling to trade one goaltender, would now have two to trade.

I personally don't believe that the Canadiens are interested in Saros. Kent Hughes rejected the young Askarov, and currently has Montembeault and Primeau as a goaltending duo, which is not the major issue for the Canadiens.

Most of the team's wins are attributed to solid goaltending. Moreover, there's Jakub Dobes and the young Jacob Fowler in the organizational depth chart. In short, I would be very surprised to learn that the Canadiens have acquired Juuse Saros.
