Just a few days ago, the team was going through a four-game losing streak, including a rather scathing 7-2 loss to the New York Rangers last Tuesday.
But what caught the eye was that for the first time since he was hired in February 2022, Canadiens fans were getting angry about head coach Martin St-Louis.
So much so that some hockey fans were practically demanding that he be fired and the site Habsolumentfan.com also reported a statement made by the Canadiens coach to say that he was not worried about all that.
But now, with two wins last weekend against the St. Louis Blues and Philadelphia Flyers, Martin St. Louis may have managed to silence his many detractors who were demanding his firing.
At least that's the opinion of Sportsnet insider Eric Engels, who said the Canadiens' two recent wins will help calm the storm.
Engels' comments pretty much summed up the reality of the moment, but more importantly, it seems that the honeymoon between Martin St. Louis and Canadiens fans is well and truly over.
During the weekend games, the Canadiens beat the St. Louis Blues 5-2 and the Philadelphia Flyers 4-3.
The Canadiens are now playing to a .500 record and are back in the mix for a playoff spot, but if the team ever hits another bad streak before too long, the rumor mill will start up again.
