Martin St-Louis on his departure from Montreal? Jeff Gorton makes a big statement, and the possibility is to be forgotten
Martin St-Louis is currently away from the team for family reasons, but rest assured that he will return as soon as the situation surrounding his son allows him to do so.
In the meantime, Trevor Letowski is acting as the head coach, and he has the full confidence of the players. Moreover, he is in constant communication with St-Louis, and decisions are made collaboratively between the two coaches.
Recently, there was a surprising statement suggesting that Jim Montgomery, the current Bruins coach, could potentially succeed Martin with the Canadiens. This raised questions, but once again, there's no need to worry about St-Louis.
Jeff Gorton has even confirmed this. St-Louis is the trusted man, and he will not leave. At least not in the short or medium term.
"We feel like we've found the right coach for us with Martin. He is the perfect coach for the Habs." - Jeff Gorton
It's true that Martin is excellent with both young players and veterans. He is very pedagogical, and he is the only one in the profession today who works individually with players.
Jonathan Drouin, in particular, mentioned how enjoyable it is to play for him.
"In the end, the management likes the work Martin St-Louis has done since his hiring. The organization feels that the coach has what it takes to propel the team to the highest levels, and it's nice to see the confidence that prevails at that level." - Marc-Olivier Cook
In short, no, Martin St-Louis will not leave the Canadiens, not for a good while. The only reason the opposite would happen is if he leaves the organization on his own terms.
