With the 5th overall pick, the GM has little choice but to select the best forward available, in addition to making an interesting acquisition during the summer.
This acquisition could very well be a second top-10 pick, according to Mathias Brunet. Without starting unfounded rumors, the journalist believes it would be wise to trade Michael Matheson for the Devils' 10th overall pick.
Although Matheson is important to the Canadiens' defensive lineup and for the young players coming up, I have to agree with Mathias Brunet. His contract ends in two seasons and with Kaiden Guhle, Lane Hutson, Arber Xhekaj, Jayden Struble, and all the other defenders coming up, spots will be limited.
Not to mention that Matheson probably has the highest value he will ever have right now. He just completed a season with 82 games and 62 points, demonstrating his ability to fill an important role in a team as a number one defenseman.
Again, this is not a rumor, it's just a simple proposition, but it must be admitted that Kent Hughes could draft an excellent young player of Tij Iginla's caliber, for example, in exchange for the defenseman.
