Indeed, the trades and draft selections have been meticulously made, and it must be said that the face of the Canadiens has changed a lot, in a positive way, over the past three years.
His predecessor, Marc Bergevin, also left a few nice gifts, and one of them is currently reshaping the organization's plans.
Oliver Kapanen signed his entry-level contract in the NHL this summer, and he is undoubtedly the name of the hour on offense. He is ready for the NHL, and that's clear.
The problem is that there's no room on the roster, unless Kent Hughes trades a veteran. That's where Christian Dvorak's name comes up once again.
Kent Hughes absolutely has to find a way to include Dvorak in a trade to make room for the young players. In Kapanen's case, he doesn't have the option to go play in the AHL with the Rocket. Either he plays with the Canadiens or he plays in Europe for the entire season.
There wouldn't be an option to recall him if needed, except at the end of his season in Europe. It remains to be seen what Kent Hughes' plan will be, but one thing is certain: if he wants Oliver Kapanen to play in North America this season, which would be well-deserved, he will have to make a second personnel move by trading a veteran.
