Montreal Canadiens trade: Kent Hughes gives details to Tony Marinaro
Before the Patrik Laine trade, there were concerns that Kent Hughes might not do anything to improve the Canadiens' offense, but he ultimately made a significant move.
This acquisition is major and could be crucial for the future of the team. If Patrik Laine bounces back, the GM will look like a true genius.
During an interview with Tony Marinaro, Kent Hughes shared some insights about his plans for future trades.
First, the focus is still on improving the offense. This suggests that the organization is satisfied with its goaltenders and defensemen. Although there's nothing particularly serious on the table at the moment, Kent Hughes provided the best possible answer.
"You want to know if there's a possibility of another trade? You want to know if we're working on the next transaction? I would never say no. I couldn't have told you in July that the trade for Patrik Laine would happen.
I think you always have to be flexible. You need to have discussions with other NHL GMs, because you never know when a player suddenly becomes available on the trade market Or there's an injury and someone needs something, so you find a trade that can help our team [There are many factors at play]"

This shows that the GM is always active, and we love that. He's constantly in discussions with his counterparts, aiming to improve his team, and he's doing it masterfully.
In total, he has acquired Kirby Dach, Alex Newhook, and Patrik Laine for the offense. These are three players that Marc Bergevin once said were very difficult to acquire on the market.
Yet Hughes gave up very little for these three players, considering their value.
Personally, I don't believe a trade involving names like Trevor Zegras is still likely, especially with the arrival of Ivan Demidov and Michael Hage, but Kent Hughes can always surprise us.
Much will depend on Patrik Laine's performance and Kirby Dach's health.
