Negotiations for Patrik Laine: Is Kent Hughes a lone wolf?
Rumors about Patrik Laine are relentless, and one might think that general managers are eager to acquire him, including Kent Hughes, but that's not the case.
The GM of the Blue Jackets admitted that only one team contacted him to inquire about the scorer.
"The general manager of the Blue Jackets, Don Waddell, told Brian Hedger of the Columbus Dispatch that only one team had reached out to discuss a trade involving Patrik Laine."
What leads many observers to believe that this team is the Canadiens is that Patrik Laine was seen in Montreal in recent days. It's becoming interesting.
Patrik Laine Trade: Is Kent Hughes Alone in the World?
If Hughes really is the only one to have inquired and tried to acquire Laine, it is likely that the offer is as modest as the interest in the player.
Regarding this, Don Waddell is not too concerned. He claims that we are in a very quiet period of the year.
"At this time of year, people are less receptive. So, I'm not sure. I think it will take a while."
- Don Waddell
The watchword is to remain patient, and unless a very good offer comes in, the Blue Jackets will not trade him for peanuts.
The transaction might indeed be delayed and could occur later in August or even in September. One thing is certain: if Waddell cannot get a reasonable price, Laine will have to play in Columbus and give his GM something to work with, meaning he needs to play good hockey.
