Justin Barron, young Montreal Canadiens defenseman, could be traded as the team prepares for the 2024-25 season.

According to journalist Mathias Brunet, Montreal Canadiens defenseman Justin Barron may still hold some market value. General Manager Kent Hughes could potentially look to acquire a late first-round pick in exchange, similar to what the Dallas Stars did for Nils Lundkvist. With emerging young talents like Lane Hutson, Logan Mailloux, and David Reinbacher, Barron could become redundant, especially after the offseason departures of Jordan Harris and Johnathan Kovacevic.

However, right-side defensive depth, crucial in case of injuries, might push Montreal to keep Barron unless an attractive offer comes. The upcoming training camp will determine his future with the team and whether a trade will materialize.

Here's what Brunet had to say:

"I think there's a chance we might try to trade Barron. It will depend, but I believe Barron still has some value. I don't think we'll let him go for a second-round pick, because there are always injuries, and you want depth, especially on the right side, where there's not much depth or experience.

I think the Canadiens believe someone might bite for a late first-round pick. Last year, we thought we could get a late first-rounder for Barron.

Look at what Dallas paid for Nils Lundkvist, a late first-round pick, and Lundkvist was behind Barron in terms of development."
