Two offer sheets submitted by the St. Louis Blues for Dylan Holloway and Philip Broberg Have set the price for their services if the Canadiens decide to make a similar offer.

As we reported earlier, the Oilers are currently in trouble, as they have only a few days to find a solution to keep their two young players targeted by the hostile offer from the St. Louis Blues.

They must quickly free up some cap space under the NHL salary cap.

We are talking about two significant amounts here, especially in Broberg's case.

«PHILIP BROBERG: $4.58 million per year for 2 years.

DYLAN HOLLOWAY: $2.29 million per year for 2 years.»

With some room to maneuver under the salary cap, the Montreal Canadiens could make a trade to help relieve the Oilers of a large salary, thus giving their Edmonton counterpart a chance to match both offers.

This presents a golden opportunity for the Canadiens to attempt another «Sean Monahan-like» trade, where they receive a player and a high draft pick in exchange for future considerations, thereby freeing up cap space.

A trade between the Canadiens and Oilers would bring a 41st overall pick to Montreal and a contract, according to Puck Pedia's tool

As noted by Marco Normandin, we now have a more concrete price.

It's not too complicated!

If the Oilers want to keep these two young former first-round picks, they are forced to make a trade. It won't necessarily be with Montreal, but Kent Hughes' team remains a smart choice.

According to various sources, defenseman Cody Ceci is likely to be sacrificed in a trade for a draft pick.

He's earning $3.25 million for one last season.

«But what could this trade bring to Kent Hughes and the Canadiens?

According to the specialized site Puck Pedia, to get rid of a contract like Ceci's, it would cost the Oilers about a 2nd round pick.»

- Marco Normandin

More specifically, Puck Pedia talks about a 41st overall pick, a price that is logical and consistent with the trade between Pittsburgh and Nashville (the Cody Glass trade).

The ideal scenario for the Montreal Canadiens and Kent Hughes would be to acquire Cody Ceci and a 41st overall pick for future considerations, and then trade Ceci at the NHL trade deadline for another second-round pick.

Kent Hughes would thus acquire two valuable second-round picks for $3.25 million of his cap space.

It would be entirely in his style to make such a move, and it's exactly what he did with Sean Monahan, but with first-round picks in that case. However, Cody Ceci doesn't have the same value as Sean Monahan.

Would you be happy with such a trade?
