Patrik Laine trade: Major development and it's confirmed for CBJ
Patrik Laine's name has been linked to the Canadiens for some time now, and recent developments are only fueling these rumors.
Indeed, Blue Jackets General Manager Don Waddell, who held the same position in Carolina until the end of last season, has been replaced by Eric Tulsky. Waddell has spoken highly of his successor.
When asked about Tulsky, Waddell didn't hesitate to say that he is a very intelligent man and that the future of the Hurricanes is in good hands. However, at the end of his response, he added a sentence that didn't go unnoticed.
"Eric's the brains," Waddell said. "He's way smarter than I'll ever dream about being. ... I have no doubt he'll do a great job. We're trying to make a trade right now, so...»
Naturally, this makes one think directly of Patrik Laine, who, as we know, has requested a trade and is expected to no longer play in Columbus.
Are Kent Hughes and Waddell in advanced discussions? That remains to be seen, but the timing seems right. The Canadiens' GM announced three signings in the past 48 hours, indicating he is currently on a mission to close hot deals.
If Patrik Laine indeed comes to Montreal, I'm eager to see what kind of return Hughes will offer.
