Patrik Laine with the Canadiens: the rumor is finally confirmed
The Canadiens are on the hunt for a goal-scoring forward, and Patrik Laine fits that bill perfectly. Kent Hughes is reportedly working on it.
However, despite the apparent interest, a recent statement by David Ettedgui brings a new perspective.
The former player agent was one of the first to link Laine to the Canadiens, but he recently backtracked after the hiring of Pascal Vincent by the Laval Rocket.
Rumor confirmed about Patrik Laine and Montreal
Indeed, Pascal Vincent coached Laine last year, and their relationship wasn't great. Vincent even benched the sharpshooter, which speaks volumes.
"With the hire of Pascal Vincent, I highly doubt the Canadiens will continue discussions with Columbus for Laine. If they hired him in Laval, it means they value his opinion. The Canadiens will take Vincent at his word. Laine-Vincent was not a pretty sight."
- David Ettedgui
This is very well put. When Pascal Vincent benched Laine, it made headlines. It's certain that Kent Hughes will listen to Vincent's advice.
And his advice will likely not lean towards acquiring Laine but quite the opposite.
