Kent Hughes has consistently reiterated that he cannot talk about players who are not part of the organization, which is why he has never confirmed his interest in Pierre-Luc Dubois, much like with Yaroslav Askarov recently.

Many fans hoped the big forward would join the Canadiens in the summer of 2023, but it was ultimately the Kings who won the sweepstakes, something they now regret.

Indeed, Rob Blake paid a hefty price to acquire Dubois, only to be forced to trade him a year later for a rather average goalie in Darcy Kuemper.

Back to Kent Hughes, the GM can't divulge information about players not with the Canadiens, but Pierre-Luc Dubois shed some light on the situation in a recent interview with Mathias Brunet.

"We had some discussions, but in the hockey world, everything is about timing. It wasn't necessarily the right situation [for both parties], and Los Angeles was pushing hard.

Los Angeles seemed like the best option because they wanted me a lot."

This suggests that there was some trade groundwork between the Canadiens and the Jets, but Hughes was not in a position to offer as much as the Kings, so he let Dubois go.

After a tough season in Los Angeles, we can only hope that Pierre-Luc Dubois bounces back this year in Washington. It's a fresh start for him!
