Plot twist and departure of Martin St-Louis as coach of the Canadiens? A major statement from Kent Hughes cancels out this possibility
The contract of the Canadiens' head coach expires at the end of the 2024-25 season, which is next year. While St-Louis's work seems unanimously well-received and secure, the question was still raised with Kent Hughes.
Indeed, during his press conference following the trade deadline, the GM addressed this matter with a lot of transparency, true to his usual style.
"We are very happy with his work, assured the general manager. We have a very good relationship with him. I'm not worried that we will work it out for him to stay with us. It's not a decision we have made at the moment, but I don't think Martin is worried." - Kent Hughes
So, there is no ambiguity on that front. Martin St-Louis will return as the coach of the Canadiens, unless he does not wish to come back by then.
This is great news for the players and the fans, and it sends a very clear message in the locker room. The current players and the organization's young talent will be under the guidance of Martin St-Louis, and they already know it.
