The rumors have been circulating for a while regarding David Savard and a possible trade. Kent Hughes seems hesitant to trade him, but the defenseman is highly sought after in the market.

If a fantastic offer, such as a first-round pick, is on the table, Hughes would seriously consider it. It all depends on his plan for Savard, but if he doesn't intend to re-sign him at the end of his contract in 2025, he might not receive such an offer again.

According to rumors, the Oilers are very interested in making a splash, and their 2024 first-round pick is reportedly available. They are specifically looking to upgrade the player in the role of Cody Ceci, and David Savard is on their radar.

"And it's a bit the same for David Savard because the Oilers' first-round pick would be in play to acquire a defenseman. This same David Pagnotta (again) talked about the Oilers and the Canadiens in a recent article, but it's a different topic. This time he linked the name of Cody Ceci to the Habs." - DLC

The trade proposal would be David Savard to Edmonton in exchange for Cody Ceci and their 2024 first-round pick. The contract terms for Savard and Ceci are very similar, so the Canadiens would have a veteran on the blue line for the next year if needed.

It seems very interesting for the Canadiens, especially as young players are developing but may not be entirely ready to make the jump to the NHL. Moreover, right-handed defensemen are quite challenging to find, so Ceci would be good insurance while waiting for Logan Mailloux to secure his position definitively.
