While all the positions behind the Laval Rocket's bench have been filled, this is not yet the case for the Canadiens, as they are still missing an assistant coach for Martin St-Louis.
Alex Burrows, who partly handled the power play, has left his position, and no replacement has been announced. Time is running out to make a hire, and rumors suggest that Martin St-Louis might take on this role in addition to his head coach duties.
Indeed, scout Reid Simpson, who specifically worked in the West and helped the Canadiens acquire players like Kaiden Guhle, Jared Davidson, and Tyler Thorpe, has left for another NHL team.
This is according to TVA Sports, but the story doesn't specify where he has gone. It is only known that he has accepted a more prominent role with another organization.
This is a heavy loss for Kent Hughes' management team. It is understood that Kaiden Guhle, selected 16th overall, would likely be a top-10 pick today.
Jared Davidson is also a very nice find, having been highly productive in junior with seasons of 82 and 89 points in his last two years. Not bad for a 5th-round pick in 2022.
He played 38 games with the Rocket last year, performing well with 16 points in a less offensive role as a rookie in the AHL.
Kent Hughes will need to work hard to find a candidate who matches Reid Simpson's impact.
