Stanley Cup: Matthew Tkachuk is in trouble because of his brother Brady
Les Panthers de la Floride and Matthew Tkachuk narrowly won the Stanley Cup in Game 7 against Connor McDavid and the Oilers.
Celebrations are in full swing in Sunrise, and Matthew doesn't intend to stay quiet. After all, he thoroughly deserves to have fun with the trophy that he and his team worked so hard to win.
However, he ran into trouble for breaking a Stanley Cup rule by dipping it into saltwater at the ocean. As a result, the Cup had to be sent back to Montreal for repairs.
"It turns out saltwater and silver don't mix well, and he wasn't supposed to take the Cup into the ocean," explained a source.
Matthew was the first player to do this, and hopefully the last. Despite the incident, he seemed pleased with his decision.
"I didn't know I wasn't allowed to do it, I promise. It was the day after we won, I still hadn't slept at that point, and it was just me and a few of my teammates. We didn't have anyone there to say, 'Matthew, don't be an idiot, don't do that.' So, I thought it was appropriate, but if I had known I wasn't supposed to do it, I wouldn't have, but also, I think it's pretty funny," Matthew Tkachuk stated.
Watching the video, it's hard to blame him. He didn't throw the Cup into the water; he simply gave it a little bath while holding it.
Matthew Tkachuk in trouble because of his brother, Brady Tkachuk
Interestingly, it was Brady who suggested the idea of taking the Cup into the ocean.
"My brother said to me, 'The ocean is right there, why don't you go in with the Cup right now?' I said, 'That's a great idea. Let's do that.' I guess I didn't give him credit when I first got asked that question, and he was pretty mad at me for that, so he deserves credit for that," Matthew Tkachuk added.
Many believe Matthew Tkachuk could face a penalty for his actions. Would a fine be justified?
Personally, I find it ridiculous. I understand the need to protect the Cup, but there are people paid to do that, and if they weren't there at the moment, why should the player be penalized?
Furthermore, as mentioned earlier, Tkachuk didn't mishandle the Cup in the circumstances. We've seen far worse incidents over the years.
