Sudden resignation: rumors about Paul Byron are confirmed
Paul Byron is currently working in the player development department with the Canadiens, but rumors are circulating about him.
There was talk that he might assist Jean-François Houle as an assistant coach for the Rocket, but he himself dismissed the rumors, stating that he is not interested in that position.
Earlier today (Friday), Houle unexpectedly resigned from his position as head coach of the Rocket, just a few weeks after signing a contract extension.
Since then, people have once again turned their attention to Paul Byron, thinking that the head coach position might interest him more than an assistant role.
We have not yet received Byron's verdict on the matter, but one thing is certain: he is not the favorite, not by a long shot.
According to Rocket broadcaster Anthony Marcotte, it is the former Columbus Blue Jackets coach, Pascal Vincent, who is the frontrunner.
"Pascal Vincent must be considered the number one candidate for the Rocket's head coach position. I won't surprise anyone by saying that.
After that, you can be sure that the candidacies of Stéphane Julien, Sylvain Favreau, Gilles Bouchard, Louis Robitaille, Éric Veilleux, Carl Mallette, and Bruce Richardson will be considered.
If the last name surprises you, know that he was the runner-up behind Houle for the Laval position three years ago." - Anthony Marcotte
So, we can already rule out Paul Byron as a candidate. The main person in question is happy being close to his family and is not yet ready to take on such a challenge.
In the future, if the opportunity arises again, he would be an excellent choice in my opinion.
