Suzuki Brothers Reunited in Montreal? Kent Hughes Could Make a Big Move and Acquire Ryan in Exchange for Jake Allen
The potential future transaction involving Jake Allen has been a topic of discussion for several months. If the organization wasn't convinced in October, it is now, and the goaltender is indeed on the market.
The significant issue is that there is an abundance of goalies like Allen in the NHL. Where he stands out is through his exemplary leadership and professionalism, but it takes more than that to be part of a team's plans, especially at $3.85 million for another year.
However, the goaltending market could become active approaching the trade deadline. There are too many teams with a shortage in that area, and that's where Kent Hughes might have a chance to make a move.
Montreal Hockey Now has put forward a proposal that makes sense for the Canadiens. According to them, the Carolina Hurricanes are the favorites to acquire Allen, and the return could be none other than Nick Suzuki's brother, Ryan Suzuki.
"Allen is a regular on the list of players at risk of being traded. He is a veteran who could be solid insurance for a contending team with a less reliable #2 goalie. Kent Hughes will likely have to retain part of his salary.
Potential buyers: Carolina, Colorado, Edmonton, Los Angeles, New Jersey, and Toronto.
As for the potential return, Kent Hughes could aim to reunite the Suzuki brothers (as they did with the Xhekaj brothers), and they would also add depth at center.
Kent Hughes seems to like giving another chance to players drafted in the 1st round in 2019. It could be the perfect combo." - Franck Bernard
Ryan Suzuki remains a project to this day, but with 42 points in his last 77 AHL games, it's far from bad. He would undoubtedly add depth at center to the organization.
