The last electrifying defenseman the Canadiens had was PK Subban, but he is very different from Lane Hutson. Subban was a completely different person, much more vocal, but he had a knack for making us get out of our seats.
We don't yet have confirmation that Lane Hutson will start the season in Montreal, but most analysts and experts agree that it's a given.
The Canadiens can't really afford to pass up on such a player, and his development will be much more effective in the NHL than in the AHL with the Laval Rocket.
He could impress so much that, according to Elliotte Friedman, he will likely be a candidate for the Calder Trophy, awarded to the NHL's top rookie, at the end of the season.
Of course, this depends on whether he makes the team and stays healthy, but the insider seems quite confident. After all, we're talking about a gem, literally.
Notably, the last Canadiens player to win the Calder Trophy was Ken Dryden in 1972. Let's just say the CH is due.
