The bad relationship between the Canadiens and the Hurricanes didn't start yesterday, especially between Marc Bergevin and Don Waddell, the two general managers at the time.

First, Bergevin made a hostile offer to Sebastian Aho, then Waddell retaliated by making a hostile offer to Jesperi Kotkaniemi.

We know today that the Canes got the upper hand with Aho, but the Canadiens had the advantage with KK.

The connection with the Blue Jackets, who could hurt the Canadiens
Don Waddell is the new GM of the Jackets, and since his new team picks just before the Canadiens at 4th overall, he could undercut Kent Hughes, even without intending to.

In fact, while logic would suggest the Jackets draft a defenseman, it seems their intention is to go for a forward.

"It is much easier to clean up your defensive zone than to try to find pure goal scorers, I think that is where we need to focus from the start."

- Don Waddell, who added that it wouldn't be surprising if his team drafted a forward

This year is rich in good defensemen, but there are few forwards with elite potential. With Macklin Celebrini and Ivan Demidov likely already taken, the Jackets' target might very well be the same as the Canadiens'.

Let's hope that's not the case, but one thing is certain, there will be no favors.
