In the 2010s, the Blackhawks won three Stanley Cups, including two with a certain Corey Crawford as the starting goaltender.

Always underestimated during his career, Corey Crawford was at his best in critical moments, and he proved it time and time again.

His development was slow, and the Canadiens have a goaltender with a very similar profile in Samuel Montembeault.

The native of Bécancour has become, through time and effort, the Canadiens' number one goaltender, and he knows he still has to prove himself every time he steps on the ice. The brilliance of young Cayden Primeau factors into the equation, and the competition between the two is just perfect.

"Montembeault has been progressing since he arrived in Montreal, and his breakout is happening a bit late.

In this respect, it's easy to compare Monty's progression to that of a goaltender like Corey Crawford, because the latter also took time before becoming the excellent goaltender he was in Chicago."

- Marc-Olivier Cook

I could hardly agree more with this statement. Monty is proving that he is the man for the job, and he has all the qualities to be the one who makes the difference in crucial moments.

He notably proved it during the 2023 World Championship, when he helped Canada win gold.

When the Canadiens make the playoff picture, I am convinced that Samuel Montembeault will be able to make the difference, just as Corey Crawford did before him with the Chicago Blackhawks.
