Yes, the general manager of the Canadiens nearly acquired Cole Caufield's best friend at the last draft, and the price is known. A trade was on the table, but it fell through at the last moment.
According to Marco Normandin from Habsolument Fan, Logan Mailloux was headed to Anaheim.
We recall that the initial offer was Logan Mailloux and the 21st pick for Trevor Zegras and a second-round pick. Kent Hughes could still match this offer.
During the draft, it seemed that Michael Hage was a highly valued player by management, which might explain why such a trade fell through. We saw Kent Hughes make a call before selecting Hage, which might have been intended for Pat Verbeek, the Ducks' GM.
The future will tell, but one thing is certain: if the Canadiens still want to acquire Zegras, it starts with Logan Mailloux and a first-round pick.
Personally, I like Mailloux, and the Canadiens don't have a lot of quality right-handed defensive prospects. David Reinbacher is alone if you take Mailloux out of the equation.
That said, I also really like Zegras, so the decision is very tough.
It will be very interesting to see what Kent Hughes decides to do if discussions are still ongoing between the two clubs.
