While it's commonly believed that the demands from Predators GM Barry Trotz are enormous, this isn't actually the case, according to Elliotte Friedman.
There were rumors that Kent Hughes received an offer from Barry Trotz during the 2023 draft, which involved Yaroslav Askarov and a first-round pick in exchange for the 5th overall pick, which became David Reinbacher.
It was a very attractive offer, and at that time, I wouldn't have been disappointed if Kent Hughes had accepted it. However, it didn't happen, and something quite promising followed.
The Canadiens selected Jacob Fowler in the 3rd round, and he could very well be the future goaltender for the organization. He is certainly one of the top goalie prospects in the world.
Returning to Elliotte Friedman, he clarified the price demanded by the Predators, which is quite reasonable.
One might think of Logan Mailloux, who, among the Canadiens' promising defensemen, seems to be the one the organization might be willing to trade. However, as mentioned earlier, I strongly doubt that Kent Hughes is in the market for a goalie.
Samuel Montembeault is a solid goaltender. Cayden Primeau showed significant progress last year, and Jacob Fowler is extremely promising. As the team is in a rebuilding phase, acquiring Yaroslav Askarov might be a step backward, in my opinion.
