Trade between the Canadiens and the Blue Jackets involving Justin Barron: we know why it was Harris
While we thought Kent Hughes wouldn't do anything to improve the Canadiens' offense this summer, he has just acquired Patrik Laine in exchange for Jordan Harris.
He even included a second-round pick in the deal, which I believe is already a fair return for the defenseman.
Speaking of Jordan Harris, although he was no longer part of the plans due to depth, it is quite unfortunate to lose him. He is a remarkable young man with undeniable leadership qualities and very good on-ice skills.
The arrival of Lane Hutson, Arber Xhekaj, and others led to his departure from the organization. Unfortunately, that's part of the game, and we know that Kent Hughes traded him reluctantly.
We've seen several comments suggesting that Kent Hughes should have traded Justin Barron instead, an opinion I personally share. Nothing against him, but Jordan Harris really has that extra something in the locker room without being a liability on the ice.
The reason is actually quite simple: Trevor Timmins, who now works for the Blue Jackets, was the one who drafted Jordan Harris in 2018.

Without a doubt, Jordan Harris will have a great NHL career, and while the Canadiens got an excellent return, it doesn't diminish the great acquisition the Blue Jackets have made on their end.
Trevor Timmins undoubtedly had a say, and that's why a proposal involving Justin Barron didn't happen instead.
