Trade completed by Kent Hughes: The general manager of the Montreal Canadiens had a tough call to make
Kent Hughes never refuses to answer fans' and journalists' questions and is usually very transparent (within reason) and friendly. Having crossed paths with him and walked a few blocks with him after leaving the Bell Centre, I can tell you that he greatly appreciates the fans in Montreal.
Recently, he was on Pierre LeBrun's podcast, and the GM admitted that he is actively trying to trade a goalie right now. Hughes also added that there will definitely not be three goalies next year. So if the situation doesn't change this season, it will be resolved this summer.
It's very interesting, and we finally have at least a maximum date set. Pierre then asked Kent how the conversation went with Martin St-Louis after the Sean Monahan trade and how St-Louis took the news.
"Pierre Lebrun to Kent Hughes: «How was the conversation with Martin St. Louis after you traded Sean Monahan?»
KH: «Fortunately it was over the phone"

From the way he said it, it's clear that it wasn't an easy call to make. He essentially told his coach that he had traded one of his best players, undoubtedly the most versatile one.
Nevertheless, it's for the better of the team in the long run. The Canadiens will now have two first-round picks this year or the possibility to trade one for an interesting acquisition.
