There have been many rumors linking the forward to the team, but until something materializes, they can't be fully confirmed.
That's where Elliotte Friedman comes in. Not only does he believe that Kent Hughes truly wanted to acquire Trevor Zegras, but he also thinks that Hughes had his eye on several forwards.
As for his verdict on whether the Canadiens are still pursuing Zegras after acquiring Patrik Laine, Friedman is much less convinced.
Indeed, there seems to be talk of Patrik Laine as if he's a consolation prize, but in reality, he's highly dominant and could be the team's most productive forward as early as this year.
What's most notable is the price paid for Laine's acquisition. In fact, Jordan Harris fetched a second-round pick, and Patrik Laine cost virtually nothing. That's pretty much the overall picture.
In any case, I agree with Friedman. I would be very surprised if Kent Hughes turns to Trevor Zegras in the short term, now that the Canadiens have Patrik Laine and several promising prospects on offense.
