There have been rumors about Trevor Zegras joining the Canadiens for a year now, mainly due to his friendship with Cole Caufield and his contract issues with the Ducks.

The Canadiens could certainly use a player like him, but only if the price is right.

Pat Verbeek's demands are reportedly higher than what other NHL GMs are willing to pay, which is likely why Zegras hasn't been traded yet.

His difficult season doesn't help, but according to Frank Seravalli, there's a good reason for it.

"Think about how tough the year has been for Zegras. He was late to training camp because Pat Verbeek and his team undervalued him in contract negotiations. Then, he got injured and missed a significant part of the season. Also, one of his best friends, Jamie Drysdale, was traded. I believe Trevor Zegras was also one of the players pressured to attend a summer training camp in Florida. The Ducks even received a $50,000 fine for that. Zegras has been involved in many frustrating situations in Anaheim, and that's just his side of things. The Ducks know he's a talented and creative player with two 60-plus point seasons. They're currently questioning if Zegras can add other dimensions to his game." - Frank Seravalli

Additionally, when Zegras was in the lineup, he wasn't always put in situations to succeed.

The Ducks seem to be focusing on other young players in their organization, like Mason McTavish and Leo Carlsson.

There's still a lot of good hockey in Zegras. In my opinion, he needs a change of scenery and to rediscover his love for the game, something he's no longer able to do in Anaheim.
