It's safe to say that Patrick Roy's debut with the Islanders is not going as expected. The team is struggling to string together wins, and the players aren't always giving the effort demanded.

When playing under Patrick Roy, there are two things not to do. He might tolerate defeat if the players give their 100%, but that clearly isn't the case.

That's when Roy decided to conduct a punitive practice reminiscent of a scene from the movie "Miracle on Ice."

"Roy said he doesn't like to put a team through the practice he did today, but said they needed to work on their fundamentals and compete and thought it will only make them better going forward.

Said it was the right time to do it.

Also, feel like I'm watching Miracle. Roy hasn't yelled at Desrosiers yet to blow his whistle...again.

But these guys are gassed and are being heavily pushed to the max today.

Seemed like a need after last two games." - Via Stefen Rosner

The Islanders players now know what will happen if they don't give the sustained effort demanded by their coach. The practice was so challenging that they didn't show up for the post-practice press conference, completely exhausted.

We don't see this type of approach as much today, but it's part of the foundation of hockey.
