Patrick Roy causes a complete surprise and fans are stunned
On the eve of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, which begin tomorrow, Patrick Roy has taken the entire hockey world by surprise.
Indeed, he has a solid duo of goalies, with the star of the two being Ilya Sorokin. However, it seems likely that he will use Semyon Varlamov in the first game.
"Semyon Varlamov (NYI) was in the starter's crease and was the first goalie off the ice at Friday's practice. Expect him to start Game 1 vs. CAR on Saturday." - DFO Fantasy
There are two possibilities: either he wants to surprise the opponent by inserting Sorokin into the lineup at the last minute, or he truly wants to go with the goalie he had during his time as coach of the Avalanche.
It's a huge surprise, even though both have respectable records that are worthy of a place in the playoffs.
Ilya Sorokin is considered one of the best goalies in the world. He has a record of 25-19-12 with a goals-against average of 2.99 and a save percentage of 0.909.
On the other hand, Varlamov has a record of 18-8-4 with a goals-against average of 2.60 and a save percentage of 0.918. It's a luxury to have such good goalies in the same organization.
