Indeed, the 7th overall pick in the last NHL draft supposedly said he would agree to play in Philadelphia next season, but only if he played on the first line.
If the Flyers don't give him what he wants, he would stay in the KHL.
You can understand that these comments were not well received, and rightfully so.
Imagine the scenario with a coach like John Tortorella. Briere telling him to put Michkov on the first line without having even skated once in the NHL.
This would indeed be unacceptable, but it's not true. The circulating word is incorrect and simply a translation error.
What Michkov and the SKA said is that if Michkov is going to play in the American League, he would stay in the KHL. The correct translation is "top league," not "top line."
This changes the entire context. The very talented young player is ready to come to the NHL as long as he plays in the best league.
This means the threats are pretty much ruled out. It's understood that for his development, playing in the KHL is better than playing in the American League.
The chances of seeing Michkov with the Flyers next season are therefore very good.
