You read that right! Unfortunately, this is not a joke
The new head coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Craig Berube, has just discovered the craziness of large hockey markets, after having been in St. Louis, Missouri. It makes one wonder to what extent media pressure can border on the ridiculous in a hockey market when journalists are as passionate as the fans.
During their two pre-season games, the Leafs certainly played with intensity, but they also conducted a lot of experiments. They are far from the team that will take to the ice for the first game of the regular season. Yet, Craig Berube was already asked if it's time to start panicking after the results of these two pre-season games.
His reaction to the journalist's question is absolutely perfect!
You read that right.
The Leafs' head coach quickly interrupted the question. He wisely reminded everyone that we're talking about two exhibition games, with lineups far from complete. These two games were mainly used to assess the young players in the organization. With a friendly demeanor, his facial expression was close to the typical responses from a certain John Tortorella.
The season hasn't officially started, and already Craig Berube seemed exasperated by the journalists. It could be a very long season in Toronto, especially if the team gets off to a rough start. The Leafs' management wanted a tough but fair coach for the players. Craig Berube's reputation in the Bettman circuit speaks for itself.
The intentions are clear in Toronto! The pressure for the team to succeed in the 2024-2025 season is immense. At the same time, this demonstrates Berube's character and what Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner, William Nylander, and John Tavares will have to deal with. There's no room for anyone who might slack off on the ice. The days of taking it easy at work are over!
What's your prediction for the Toronto Maple Leafs' 2024-2025 season? Do you think they'll win a playoff round? Could this finally be their year?
