Alain Crête makes a contrary statement about Cole Caufield
There aren't many positives to take away from the Canadiens' start to the season, aside from Cole Caufield and Nick Suzuki's performance.
Indeed, the Canadiens' forwards have great individual stats, but they don't translate to the team's success, unfortunately.
Caufield is probably the best story this year, as he already has 10 goals. It's really exceptional to start the season with an average of one goal per game after a month of activity.
We should be happy about that instead of spitting on it, something that TVA Sports analyst Pascal Leclaire wasn't able to do. He outright asked for Caufield to be taken out for a game.
"I'll take Caufield as an example. Yes, he scores goals and all that, but he always scores goals from the same position, and the rest of the game, we don't see him.
There, at some point if it doesn't work, why don't we put him in the stands? He's Jesus of Nazareth? No need to do it at home when people are paying, but it's just to send a message."
- Pascal Leclaire
Why send a message to a player who does what he's paid to do, that is to say score goals? We agree that Caufield didn't sign a contract of nearly $8 million per year for his defensive play.
That's exactly what Alain Crête believes, who was quite direct.
"Be patient with Caufield's defense! If the guy scores 40, good for him and good for the team!" - Alain Crête
He adds that there are several players on the team who can take care of the defense. A player like Mike Bossy put it in there and no one said that his defensive play was deficient.
In short, I find it deplorable that such a special player who is in his zone is criticized like this. It proves that we will never be happy in Montreal, it is quite obvious.
Even when a player is in the best sequence of his career, we cannot be happy for him. It is pathetic, in my opinion and I 100% agree with Crête .
