Big last-minute step for the return of the Quebec Nordiques
Things are really heating up in the Coyotes situation, and there's increasing talk about the possibility of the Quebec Nordiques making a comeback.
Quebec's Finance Minister, Eric Girard, met with Gary Bettman last week in New York. Already, that's very positive news, but there's more.
The mayor of Scottsdale, Arizona, just mentioned that he won't support the project for a new arena in his city. This means Bettman's and the current owner's last plan to keep the Coyotes in Arizona seems to be off the table.
"Scottsdale mayor says in op-ed he won't support #Yotes proposed new arena site with infrastructure assets.
'The prospect of a rookie developer attempting to buy [land] ... at the doorstep of Scottsdale is not feasible, or welcome.'"
The NHL even issued a statement saying that representatives from the cities of Houston and Atlanta will also meet with Bettman in the coming days.
So, it means that all three cities, including Quebec, are in the running for a relocation. If it's urgent, Quebec has a head start since the infrastructure and funding have been ready for a long time.
Definitely a story to follow...
