The Coyotes' move to Salt Lake City is now well known. Only one step remained to confirm the decision, and it has now been completed.

The governors needed to vote in favor of this change, and it was approved unanimously. Anything else would have been surprising, as the Coyotes were a burden in Arizona.

However, even though the team has officially relocated, Gary Bettman has a plan up his sleeve. It's truly ridiculous.

"The National Hockey League Board of Governors today approved the creation of an NHL franchise, starting in the 2024-2025 season, in Utah. The franchise will be owned and controlled by the Smith Entertainment Group, led by Ryan and Ashley Smith.

Additionally, the Board approved a plan that makes the Arizona Coyotes franchise inactive, with the right to reactivate it if owner Alex Meruelo builds a brand new, state-of-the-art facility suitable for an NHL team within five years." - National Hockey League

So, even though we can finally turn the page, Bettman still holds onto the dream of seeing a team survive in Arizona.

In nearly 30 years, hockey has never really taken off in Arizona, despite several locations. It might be time to finally bury this idea and move on.
