It's no wonder he's booed at every appearance in front of fans across the NHL. Absolutely everyone struggles to like him.
Of course, Bettman is not the NHL commissioner to be loved, but the sense of connection between him and the fans, and thus between his league and the fans, is very weak.
This is a problem.
Another clear example of this emerged in the past few hours, as the Washington Capitals bought the site CapFriendly, which is greatly appreciated by hockey fans and even by teams.
Bettman has always thought that no one cares about player contracts and the salary cap, but that's completely false.
As a result, CapFriendly will no longer be accessible to anyone starting in July. Bettman should perhaps connect more with the fans; he would then see that many of us are outraged by dubious salary cap management, like what the Lightning and Golden Knights have done.
This is truly embarrassing for the NHL and a significant loss for hockey fans. CapFriendly is a very informative and well-loved site, and it will be missed by everyone.
