Total upheaval in sight for Canadiens' TV games?
A groundbreaking announcement could be imminent regarding the television broadcast of Canadiens' games and in the NHL.
Indeed, Sportsnet, which holds the rights for hockey in Canada until the end of the 2025-26 season, could sell these rights as soon as the next campaign for Monday night.
The main interested parties would be Amazon and Bell.
"Lots of reported chatter this week over SN/Rogers possibly selling its Monday night broadcasts in Canada to Amazon. There's talk Bell (TSN) has also had discussions about jumping back in on the national side, in some form, too. Rogers' deal expires after the 2025-26 season."
Once the contract expires in 2026, expect hockey to be broadcast strictly online. This is a significant possibility, especially if Amazon has two years to make its strategy viable.
