Gary Bettman receives a very clear and historic message in SC Finals
The NHL is in great health, no doubt, but imagine if there weren't any token markets in the mix!
When I talk about token markets, I mean teams based in cities that aren't necessarily strong in hockey, like Sunrise, for example.
Bettman tends to persist in doing everything to keep his teams in the United States, and when he feels the heat, he gives a little gift to Canada, like the return of the Jets.
This tweet is shocking but so true. There's no room in the discussions for Quebec City, but when it's an American city, no problem, all efforts are made.
And now that a Canadian team is in the Stanley Cup Final, the numbers are historic for Gary Bettman and the NHL.
For comparison, this is a 61% increase from last year's Game 5 of the final between the Golden Knights and the Panthers.
Needless to remind you of the controversies surrounding the return of the Nordiques in this matter, when the Panthers (Sunrise) aren't really working and the Golden Knights were born at the expense of the Nordiques, who had paid their dues at that time.
The last time comparable numbers were seen was during the final involving the Montreal Canadiens in 2021. Coincidence?
Bettman absolutely needs to wake up. The League is healthy, but it would be even stronger with more Canadian teams and a commissioner who doesn't just think about south of the border.
