Interesting trade between the Canadiens and the Devils involving a 7th overall pick: It has just been proposed, and it's precisely the type that Kent Hughes would consider
Since becoming the GM of the Canadiens, Kent Hughes has made some good transactions. Among those that define him the best are probably the ones involving Kirby Dach and Alex Newhook.
Hughes seems to have a penchant for acquiring promising young talents and giving them a chance in the spotlight. With the recent discussions between the Habs and the Devils, Bob Trask proposed acquiring the young Alexander Holtz.
Drafted 7th overall in 2020, Holtz is starting to assert himself more in the NHL. However, the Devils are in a good position to win now and will likely need to acquire a second goaltender and some players to help in their quest. Sacrificing young players or prospects is therefore part of the game.
I don't really believe that the Devils would trade Holtz for mere depth. Even if the transaction involved Cayden Primeau, Holtz remains a much more promising player.
If Kent Hughes is able to land Holtz, it would be a real stroke of genius.
