A rumor of a trade between the Montreal Canadiens and the Calgary Flames caused a stir on social media yesterday.

Jean-Charles Lajoie put forward an intriguing proposition that could see Quebec forward Jonathan Huberdeau join the Montreal ranks.

In his article published on TVA Sports and the Journal de Montréal, the host explores the idea of replacing Brendan Gallagher with Huberdeau.

Huberdeau, 31, from Saint-Jérôme, earns a salary of $10.5 million, an amount that the Flames could partially assume, according to Lajoie.

"Why not take advantage of the situation to try to get our hands on Jonathan Huberdeau? I know, I know, Jo is earning $10.5 million this season and he's going to do it for the next seven, until he's 38. »

- Jean-Charles Lajoie

The host adds that this transaction would be realistic if the Flames agreed to absorb part of Huberdeau's salary while taking Gallagher's contract in return. We agree, for the Flames, it could become interesting to pay a certain amount per year to get rid of Huberdeau, instead of buying him out at a high price.

"Before rejecting these two options outright, look at me without laughing and try to convince me that the Canadiens' top six in health, including Laine, can't include Zegras or Huberdeau?"

- Jean-Charles Lajoie

Huberdeau, drafted 3rd overall by the Panthers in 2011, has enjoyed an impressive career with 727 points in 841 games.

Last season, he had 52 points in Calgary and already has seven points in 10 games this year.

His arrival in Montreal could bring a new dynamic to the team.
